Mani Mondays: Striping Tape

If you follow me on Pinterest, you will see that I've been pinning nail art lately!  I'm still pretty conservative when it comes to my nails, but I do like to spice things up when I get a chance.
I recently ordered some nail striping tape and thought I would give it a shot.  I just did a simple two stripe accent nail for testing.
What you will need:
A complete/dry manicure (I painted my nails with a 'new' Covergirl Outlast shade, go-go-mango)
a top coat
a spool of nail tape
a pair of manicure scissors
Since I am a mommy to a beautiful 8 month old daughter, I don't have a lot of mani-pedi time. So this was a 2 night project :)  I painted my base color on the night before.  You don't need to wait 24 hours, just until your nails are completely dry.
I painted one coat of Essie 3-Way Glaze top coat on my ring finger nail.
I pulled the tape across my nail and cut it on both sides with the manicure scissors. I got as close to the sides of my nail as possible. Using a small pair of scissors is definitely key!  Using the tip of the scissors, I pressed the tape to make sure that it sticks to the wet top coat.
Some people add another coat of top coat, but I didn't think it was necessary and it made the tape look kind of wierd.
Ta-da! Here's the finished product!  I definitely can't wait to do more with this stuff!

It's been a few days since I did this and the tape is still holding on well.  I did read somewhere that a little bit of nail glue would hold it longer and better.  I'll probably give that a try next time around.
I hope you all had an amazing weekend!  I know we definitely enjoyed the sun in SoCal this weekend.  Have a great week everyone!

Monogram Wallet Review

I've been in this 'everything monogrammed' phase since this post. Ever since I purchased that case, I fell in love with the personal touch that a monogram gives.
I went on to Etsy to see what other monogram items I might like.  As I've said before, monogramming can get really cheesy, really fast, so I knew I wanted something simple and I was going to be really picky about it.
I stumbled across Home Twedt Home, an Etsy shop that does a lot of personalized items.  I happened to be on the lookout for a wallet, so when I saw the monogram clutch-style wallets, I knew it had to get one. I love that this wallet is really slim so I can slip it into the smallest/thinnest purse and it even doubles as a clutch. I can carry my iPhone and car key inside and it closes comfortably.
You can select both the wallet and thread color. As you know, I've been on this neon kick, so I got the lime wallet with navy thread.  The color and quality was really impressive. The above picture is without a filter and you can see how bright and clean/crisp it looks.
I hope you are all having a great week!

Pinned it, Did it: Cinnamon Sugar Baked Doughnuts

I was at the hair salon some time ago and we came accross the subject of Pinterest. We talked about how much of a time waster it is, flipping though all the photos, etc.  Then she asked me if I ever made anything that I pinned.  My response - No. Hmm...I mean I've gotten ideas from it. Does that count?  Anyway, I thought I would go ahead and actually make something that I pinned!  Enter: Cinnamon Sugar Doughnuts from the blog Baker Bettie.
The only things I did different was add cinnamon and nutmeg into the batter, substitute whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose, add more cinnamon to the topping and use a regular size doughnut pan.
Here's what you'll need:
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, plus extra for the pan, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 tsp baking powder
- pinch salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
1. Preheat oven to 325ºF
2. Using some of the extra butter, lightly coat each well of the doughnut pan
3. In a medium bowl, mix the butter and sugar until creamy
4. Add the egg, milk, and vanilla and mix until combined (mixture will look curdled)
5. Mix in the baking powder, then the salt, then the nutmeg and cinnamon
6. Mix in the flour just until combined
7. Transfer mixture into a ziplock type baggie with the tip cut off. Pipe into the pan only filling ½ of the way fill.
8. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until brown
**Allow to cool slightly before dipping in topping
1. Melt the butter for the topping and combine the cinnamon and sugar
2. Dip each donut lightly in butter then roll in cinnamon and sugar
This was such a hit at my house!  I'd love for you to try the recipe and let me know what you think!

Green & Yellow Combo

Racerback Tank (F21) - Skirt (old, similar here and wanting this one) - Belt (Local Boutique)

I love this outfit becuase it is just so bright and summery.  The tank is more of a satiny emerald green which doesn't really show in the photo.  I was searching my closet for something that would be comfy and cool in this 80 degree weather. Since we moved in April, I found so many clothes that I forgot I had. It came to no surprise that many still had the tags on them...oops!  This skirt is literally years old.  I really do clean out my closet every few months, but it's really just to get rid of the old looking, what was I thinking super trendy and other pieces that I know I'm not really going to wear much any more.  Anyway, I held on to this yellow skirt because it's actually very vesitile.  I didn't really want to wear a belt with this, but the skirt has belt loops and one of by biggest pet peeves is to see obvious belt loops and no belt.  Pants with belt loops and no belt is totally different and totally acceptable.  Anyway, the belt really tied the outfit together so it worked out :)
Thanks for visiting! I hope you all have a great week and stay cool!

Mani Monday: Think Pink

OPI Charged Up Cherry - Revlon (See Post) - Wet  n Wild 435G

So after I did my nails, I realized it's more Valentine's Day-ish that Summer-ish.  Oh well, I wanted to paint my nails pink and shake it up a bit so this is what I ended up with.

So that Revlon's actually Tickled Pink mixed with a little bit of Cherries in the Snow.  I didn't like the way Tickled Pink looked on my skin tone.  I have more of a golden olive-y skin tone and Tickled Pink was a little too much of a frost pink for me.  It would not be worth my time or gas to take the nail polish back to the store and I love DIY projects so why not? So I mixed a little bit of a red polish that I had, Cherries in the Snow, which is a really pretty red but more of a Winter/Fall red if that makes sense.  Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the color it's become.

It still looked kind of "blah", so I added some glitter and called it a day :)

I hope your week is off to a great start and enjoying the new blog design!

Cheap Thrills: F21 Haul

These are some of the recent items I've purchased at F21.  I love F21 maxi dresses!  They are super cheap so you can be a little wreckless or rugged with them - wear them to the beach, to the park while you're chasing around a toddler, running errands, etc.  The one on the top is so comfortable, but still so dressy and chic.  It's been in the 80s in sunny SoCal, so you can't go wrong with these ikat shorts and crochet tank (not together) for a quick date night or drinks with the girls.

I've reached by pre-pregnancy weight (woohoo!!), but I'm not as comfortable with my body as I used to.  I still have more toning to do, I guess.  So I didn't really want to spend money on a new swimsuit.  But, doesn't summer just call for one?!  I love that this one is so bright and summery and under $30.

Is it just me or does anyone sleep better in actual pajamas?  I used to be a yoga/lounge pants and tank top kind of girl because I never really wanted to spend anything on something I'm just going to sleep in.  But then I realized how much better I sleep when I'm in comfy, cute pajamas.  These ones are about $20 which is a steal, so I couldn't pass them up.

Just some random other things I got -  I like the subtle distressed look of these light skinnies becuase I'm not all that into the distressed denim look.  But the little detail on these ones are cute.  Note - buy these in one size smaller than your actual size because they stretch as you wear them.  These tribal cut out sandals are probably my best purchase.  They are so comfortable and pretty much go with everything.  Since hubby and I purchased a new car, I've been going back and forth between the two vehicles and it drives me insane when I don't have sunglasses.  So I bought a few cheapies to keep in each vehicle :)  These round ones were actually inspired by Kourtney K.
