That time I felt like a bad mom...

As I new mom, I find myself at the butt end of advice much of the time. I mean, why not? This is supposed to be a whole new, scary, life altering event that I know nothing about.

Being the youngest girl in my family, I have been blessed with a beautiful neice (who if officially a middle schooler!) and the cutest littel nephew I could ever ask for. Also, since I was pretty much my mom's shaddow growing up, I've been around babies and have always loved caring and playing with them.

Last year, I was blessed with a beautiful daughter.  I have never felt so proud, happy and humble at the same time.

When it comes to my baby, advice is always welcome.  No one knows everything about raising children and research/information is always changing.  For example, the statistics for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome has steadily declined over the last 30 years.  There is so much more information on what we can do to decrease the risks. The way we care for babies today is not the same as 30 years ago.  I'm not saying it's better or worse, it's just different because of the information available to us now.  I take advice with a grain of salt and a smile.

That is until the ugly face of judgement appears.  Each mom has their own way of doing things.  None is better than the other, you just have to do what you believe is best for your family.

When my daughter was a newborn, people would say that I hold her too much and that's why she wakes up when I try to put her down.  They said she was getting too used to the arms and that I should have mercy on whoever has to watch her when I'm away.  I felt like a bad mom.

My daughter co-slept with me until she was 6 months old.  When I was pregnant and told people that I planned to co-sleep, the response I got was "Oh, you'll find what's comfortable for you when the baby comes".  Okay, what is that supposed to mean?  Every time I saw certain people, it would be "Is she using her crib yet?"  I felt like a bad mom.

Thankfully my mother has always been so supportive of my decisions and parenting style.  I have also made some mommy blogger friends who have given me more confidence to do what I think is best for my family and not care what others think/say.

Today, I still hold my baby until she falls asleep, and contrary to what other people have said, she sleeps in her crib throughout the night and loves to sit by herself and play with her toys.

I just wanted to take this time to remind ourselves not to judge other mothers.  We are all in this together, doing the best we can for the people we love the most.  What didn't work for you and your family might help another.  So pat yourself on the back and enjoy the life that you've been blessed with.

Rikki Review: TIGI Catwalk Your Highness Line

Since losing my lush pregnancy locks, I've been on the hunt for anything volumizing or thickening for my hair.
Pre-pregnancy, my hair had always been thick and full.  If I wanted a really sleek look, I would shower the night before, sleep on my hair to flatten it and then use a straight iron in the morning.
During my pregnancy, it just became thicker, fuller and shinier.  Boy was I in love!  I wouldn't even have to blow dry it.
It's common post-pregnancy for a woman to lose a lot of hair becuase during pregnancy, the hair pretty much stops falling out, leaving you with an exceptional mane.
For me, this resulted in flatter locks.  Although I have A LOT of baby hair growing in to replace the lost hair (thank goodness! ::end panic attack::), I definitely had to get used to putting a little bit more effort into my hair.
Volumizing products are really a hit or miss with me.  They either really dry out my hair, leave my hair feeling greasy or dirty because of the product residue or just plain don't work.
Since I've been trying to many products out there, I thought I would share my hits with you.  This is definitely one of them.
Your Highness Elevating Shampoo
Your Highness Nourishing Conditioner
Your Highness Thickening Gel Creme
Process: Shampoo, conditioner, towel dry, gel creme and blow dry with a round brush
When I first put the shampoo in, it kind of had a coconut hinted smell.  I'm not a big fan of anything coconut scented becuase it reminds me of tanning oil or the sun.  Some people like that - just not me.  The coconut hinted smell doesn't last long.  In fact, this product leaves your hair with a light, clean scent.  Not perfume-y at all.
The conditioner is very light.  It doesn't have that "did I get it all out?" feeling.  Afterward, your hair just really feels clean.
The gel creme is very light and doesn't feel heavy in your hair.  And WOW does it work! It gives you the volume and definitely adds shine.  The first time I used this line, I went to lunch with my brother and the first thing he said was "whoa, your hair is bigger than normal".  What a guy thing to say, right?  He meant it in a good way though ;)
I decided to share some pictures with my hair straight and no filter.  I normally add waves to add more volume and movement, but to get the whole idea of how this product works, I thought straight would be best.  Any yes, I need a trim :P
Definitely give this product a shot and let me know how it works for you!

DIY: Candy Bouquet

For my neice's promotion from 5th grade, I made her this candy and gift card "bouquet".  I knew I wanted to give her a gift card to her favorite store, but I didn't want to just throw it in an envelope.  At my baby shower, one of my friends gave me a diaper bouquet and it was adorable.  So I thought I would duplicate something like it.  My neice loves her candy so I thought I would do flowers, candy and put the gift card on top.  This project took be about a total of 15 minutes to put together.
Here's what you'll need:
1 plant pot
1 foam ball to insert into the plant pot
Barbeque skewers
Hot glue gun
Hot glue gun sticks
Artificial flowers
Various candies
Gift card
15-20 minutes
Put a dot of hot glue onto the gift card and glue onto one barbeque skewer.
Break your barbeque skewers in various lengths.
Spread candies on a counter, face down.  Put a dot of glue onto the candy and place skewer on top.  Repeat for all the candy.  Allow to dry.  If you don't allow the glue to dry, the candies will not stay stright on the skewers.
Place the foam ball inside of the plant pot.  Insert the gift car skewer in the middle so that you can work your way around it.
Insert your flowers in various places in the pot.  This way, you can fill the space with the candies.

Insert the candy skewers into the foam in various places to fill in the voids.
Voila!  A quick, fun gift for anyone :)

Peach Phase

You've probably seen that I've purchased everything mint, lime and cobalt blue.  To keep up with all the colors I am excited about this season, I've purchased some peachy hued items.

From this post, you've seen the irresistable bracelet/leather wrap I purchased by Glint & Gleam.  In this photo, I'm also rocking the rose gold cable bracelet, also by Glint & Gleam.

I just joined the iPhone family a few months ago and it pained me to say that I love it.  I was an Android girl for a long time - sometimes I don't like change :P So I had this white case that was SUPER protective, but it bored me.  So being the Etsy addict that I am, I went looking for a cool new case.  I totally fell in love with the monogram pieces, but they could get really cheesy, really quickly.  So in browsing, I came accross To Guild the Lily. I love the color and print.  It's fun, not too loud and perfectly acceptable to carry around at a meeting.  I use my phone A LOT for work, so that was a very important aspect when choosing a phone cover.  This cover is clean, sleek and it's peach, gold and white - everything I love! Check out their Etsy store, there are so many amazing items!

Quick Paint Job

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I found the most perfect nude polish by Orly. I've been on this nail design kick and decided that I wanted to add a little something. Since mint is all the rage, I did a quick angled tip with Minted by Revlon. I just used some tape, stuck it on my nails at an angle and painted the tip. I added my favorite Essie top coat and this is what I got :) Enjoy and have an amazing weekend!

A Bright Afternoon

I seriously can not handle all the amazing colors of the season. If you're like me, you're not used to mixing so many colors in one outfit. But I am in love with all the bling and colors this year. Here's a little inspiration.
